May election results in Council District 9
Would you be surprised to learn that incumbent City Councilwoman Judy Montero nearly lost an entire neighborhood against wild-eyed Waldo Benevidez? Well, it happened in Valverde, where the penniless challenger received 45.2% of the vote. Below is a graph indicating the results.

Despite a supposedly destitute, unfocused and often clueless campaign, Benevidez did find enough funding to distribute one crude and racially-tinged election piece to households.
Waldo also benefited from some name recognition (from several unsuccessful campaigns) in some of the communities where there still are large #s of Hispanic households in the district; and from regular air-time and back-handed endorsements from Peter Boyles.
